The debate was whether the cloud ceilings were going to rise enough to get our shot. We took the chance and we were glad we did, I am so LUCKY. This was an amazing evening and so nice the share with others. On the way up the mountain it looked as though Mount Shuksan was going to be shrouded with clouds and when we arrived at the top, our suspicions were validated, about fifty percent of the face was covered with clouds. We were early and wished really hard for the clouds to move, chanting and blowing really hard. You can imagine how delighted we were when they did, natures rythym is so amazing to witness. What a treat this was.

We made the trip up to Mt Baker last night, to see what we could see. I am grateful and feel so lucky to be afforded this opportunity. Yesterday was absolutely stunning for sailing, the sunset was a perfect match for the day. One of the more beautiful vistas is up on Mount Baker, most of your views are of Mount Shuksan. Nature did not disappoint us last night, we were oh so lucky to share in this wonderous scene. The drama began when the sun started to creep below the mountains behind us, the clouds above the mountain to our rear began to glow with hues of red, orange and magenta. The refraction of the light and colors gave us an awesome light show on Mount Shuksan. What a treat, attached are a couple of versions of how I viewed the scene.

The list of things I wanted to explore, when I moved to Washington, was and still is very long. Light is so unpredictable, there is nothing better than being there when it happens. The two examples below are "Golden Hour" and "Alpen Glow", taken close to the same place on different nights, they are perfect examples of being in the right place (I am lucky enough to live here), at the right time. The light and scenery do the work, having a camera with you is the hard part, too often I hear people say "If I would have had a camera". This place has so many opportunities for changing light, my favorite quote is "the best images are always captured before or after a storm" CS. Constantly changing weather is boring for some but I find it enchanting, serendipitous light changing events last sometimes only seconds, bringing excitement to camera placement, lens selection, shutter speed and aperture. Excitement brings anticipation and drama to the shoot as well as the expectation of getting a meaningful image, one that moves the heart.....

As Photographers we are constantly chasing what we call "Sweet Light", often times pouncing on some travel destination, working vigorously to be in the right place at the wrong time. It seems that this cliff is a Western Washington favorite for the hanglider crowd. The take off spot is determined by the prevailing winds coming off the coast, the wind direction dictates the departure. This hill is 1300 feet above the water and, I am told, is "PRIMO sailing Dude", how fun, I want to go tandem.
