The debate was whether the cloud ceilings were going to rise enough to get our shot. We took the chance and we were glad we did, I am so LUCKY. This was an amazing evening and so nice the share with others. On the way up the mountain it looked as though Mount Shuksan was going to be shrouded with clouds and when we arrived at the top, our suspicions were validated, about fifty percent of the face was covered with clouds. We were early and wished really hard for the clouds to move, chanting and blowing really hard. You can imagine how delighted we were when they did, natures rythym is so amazing to witness. What a treat this was.

From this point you can view Mount Baker and Mount Shuksan, this angle gives you an awesome view back toward the community of Fairhaven.

Overlook Favorite http://www.clementstevens.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=109:overlook-favorite&catid=13&Itemid=32

A friend called tonight and asked if the sunshine was making me antsy to get out. Of course, I could not resist, after a week of rain it was time for a sunset. What a treat, a familiar place with an unfamiliar look. The colors dazzle the imagination as the sun falls beneath the horizon.

SUCIA ISLAND SUNSET http://www.clementstevens.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=108:sucia-island-sunset&catid=13&Itemid=32 Meaningful images are easy to find in the Great Northwest although the changing light is a constant challenge the element of success is to have a camera with you at all times. This weekend was spent in the San Juan islands, on another one of our "step out and do new things" excursions, learning to sail. I must say these excursions put me in places that may not have seen the lens of this photographer otherwise. I am grateful and feel so lucky to be afforded this opportunity. Yesterday was absolutely stunning for sailing, the sunset was a perfect match for the day. Attached are a couple of images from Echo Bay on Sucia Island last night at sunset. Enjoy....I did.

Venice Louisiana http://www.clementstevens.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=107:venice-louisiana&catid=13&Itemid=32 We had the unique oppotunity to visit Venice Louisiana this weekend, during what will turn out to be historical moment. The Deepwater Horizon oil spill accident will change this area forever.
You can actually feel the heartbeat of nature here. The weather delivers a number of changes during each day during this time of year. In a matter of minutes, we experienced rain, hail, wind, thunder and lightning. With every change in atmospheric condition comes a different natural rythym, after one rain event we witnessed a gathering of herons that any photographer could only dream of finding in one spot. When you take a moment to relax and take it all in, the human senses are overwhelmed by the imagery, sounds and smells of these amazing surroundings. You can only hope that this ecosystem is not disturbed by the continuing spillage of oil in the Gulf of Mexico. My heart goes out to the people who live and love this area.

Mountain Sunset http://www.clementstevens.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=106:mountain-sunset&catid=13&Itemid=32 The list of things I wanted to explore, when I moved to Washington, was and still is very long. One of the more beautiful vistas is up on Mount Baker, most of your views are of Mount Shuksan. Nature did not disappoint us last night, we were oh so lucky to share in this wonderous scene. The drama began when the sun started to creep below the mountains behind us, the clouds above the mountain to our rear began to glow with hues of red, orange and magenta. The refraction of the light and colors gave us an awesome light show on Mount Shuksan. What a treat, attached are a couple of versions of how I viewed the scene.

Nice week in Bellingham http://www.clementstevens.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=105:a-weeks-work-in-bellingham-&catid=13&Itemid=32 As Photographers we are constantly chasing what we call "Sweet Light", often times pouncing on some travel destination, working vigorously to be in the right place at the wrong time. Light is so unpredictable, there is nothing better than being there when it happens. The two examples below are "Golden Hour" and "Alpen Glow", taken close to the same place on different nights, they are perfect examples of being in the right place (I am lucky enough to live here), at the right time. The light and scenery do the work, having a camera with you is the hard part, too often I hear people say "If I would have had a camera". This place has so many opportunities for changing light, my favorite quote is "the best images are always captured before or after a storm" CS. Constantly changing weather is boring for some but I find it enchanting, serendipitous light changing events last sometimes only seconds, bringing excitement to camera placement, lens selection, shutter speed and aperture. Excitement brings anticipation and drama to the shoot as well as the expectation of getting a meaningful image, one that moves the heart.....

Niceness http://www.clementstevens.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=104:golden-niceness&catid=13&Itemid=32 ]]> clement@clementstevens.com (Clement Stevens) frontpage Thu, 29 Apr 2010 06:17:20 +0000 San Juan Sunset http://www.clementstevens.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=103:san-juan-sunset&catid=13&Itemid=32 This scene continues to pull me in, I find it hard to resist such a compelling backdrop. Tonight as the weather cleared, sundown seemed to be another opportunity to explore this wondrous spot. Tonight I met two very interesting fellows, hanglider types, Hans and Emelio. It seems that this cliff is a Western Washington favorite for the hanglider crowd. The take off spot is determined by the prevailing winds coming off the coast, the wind direction dictates the departure. This hill is 1300 feet above the water and, I am told, is "PRIMO sailing Dude", how fun, I want to go tandem. We just missed a set of hangliders taking off, I am looking forwad to my next time, leaving earlier to catch the hanglider show. Oh, by the way, did I mention the sunset was stunning.
